Medical Mission Overview: An Orientation to International Aid Work

Through a mix of interactive didactic sessions and hands-on clinical training, our intensive educational activity will include a broad overview of numerous key topics promoting best practices and more effective provider performance in missions and remote clinical settings.

Floating Doctors’ mission headquarters on Isla San Cristobal, Bocas del Toro, Panama.

COURSE DESIGN

There will be a total of 3 mornings of classroom discussions reviewing perspectives on best practices for remote care diagnostics and treatments, 1.5 hours of hands-on portable ultrasound workshops, and 2 days of practical training in remote jungle clinics with the Floating Doctors.  Lectures take place in the mornings, and most afternoons are free for participants to explore the activities Bocas has to offer (or just lie in a hammock and look out over the water).  Dinner is provided each evening and most evenings have an an optional after-dinner class available.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Minnesota and RemoteCare Education. The University of Minnesota is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Minnesota designates this live activity for a maximum of 33.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ with the determination of the exact number of credits pending review of the final agenda.
